Cross-culturalism and Psychology of Migration

Areas of action

As a multicultural group, we started by focusing on activities for mutual and independent education, which became on ongoing practice. For us, the group is a chance to dialogue and compare professional and educational experiences of each member. On the basis of exploring these disciplines, we collect materials useful for studying migration issues, including annotated, up-to-date bibliography and filmography available to members and which they can add to thesmevles.
We have also created an overview, still in progress, mapping initiatives, needs, and specific local migration situations to help understand and implement, where needed, a network of actions and services addressing these issues.
We are currently engaged in clinical and educational projects for colleagues and all professionals who work in the care of people - for their mental and physical health. We develop educational modules for psychological, social and healthcare professionals who work in cross-cultural settings

The Cross-culturalism and Psychology of migration area is active in the following areas:
  • finding and developing practical tools and new perspectives on the psychology of migration;
  • raising public awareness and educating about the specific issues of helping relationships with people from cultures different from our own;
  • promoting services aimed at protecting the psychosocial well-being of migrants;
  • promoting dialogue within diversity to move past encounters dominated by conflict and closure;
  • collaboration with Italian and foreign associations.
